Vietnam’s iplus Architecture has designed an office building in Hanoi for its client Giaohangtietkiem (GHTK), an app-based last-mile delivery firm. The top floor of the building is a complex housing areas for entertainment, canteen for staff and also accommodation for management levels working overnight.
In order to match the overall design of the building, we consistently apply natural materials and colours which are closer to daily life. The brand colour has been toned down to fit a relaxing space and minimalist concept, inspired by “work from home” rest area.
The spatial solution was to separate the building into two parts – exterior part featuring a garden space combining relaxation, dining area, or simply a gathering place for group discussion or dry party; and the interior part that includes functional areas for reading, entertainment, staff accommodation and dining. Natural light shining through the existing concrete slabs creates a parallel shadow effect across the ground.
This shadow effect is intentionally transitioned to smooth motion lines inside, keeping the connection and continuity between external and internal space. From the outside in, the parallel shadow being softened to flowing objects as far as the natural light fades away.
Outside, the available infrastructure did not allow the architects to create a garden. Instead, some floor treatments have been applied to heighten the ground and create contour lines for functional arrangement. Once again, the local green bamboo is chosen as a recall to the company’s brand color and the lobby’s design on the 1st floor. The dining area with a floating concept can be easily turned into a small stage when needed.
