Social media becomes the preferred channel of snobbish luxury brands
We’ve been saying this for a long time now and this article in The Telegraph just proves us right! Web-based media and social networking sites rule the roost. Gone are the days when bloggers were given the second-class treatment as compared to their glossy magazine counterparts. People like Scott Schuman and his fiancée Garance Doréweild huge influence with designer, magazine editors as well as fashionistas alike. The couple who have become celebrities themselves with fans around the world regularly get commissioned by magazines such as GQ, Vogue, Elle to capture real fashionable people on the streets and by fashion labels for their ad campaigns. Just recently Schuman was engaged by Burberry to shoot their Art of the Trench Campaign.
In the current economic climate, where publishing giants like Condé Nast are shutting down magazines as if they are so last season, bloggers manage to hold their own. The axed list contains titles that were previously thought to be infallible– House & Garden, Gourmet, Domino, Cookie, Elegant Bride, Portfolio, besides folding Men’s Vogue in to Vogue.
