Zaha Hadid designed Chanel Mobile Pavilion lands at Central Park in New York
Karl Lagerfeld never does anything that will not render his admirers as well as critics awestruck. This was evident at the recent unveiling of the travelling Chanel Mobile Pavilion designed by Zaha Hadid and filled with specially commissioned artworks of more than 20 international artists, inspired by Coco Chanel’s iconic 2.55 quilted Chanel bag.

The groovy party was attended by the who’s who of the fashionable society– the ever stylish French Vogue editor Corine Roitfeld who proudly confessed that the Chanel bag is one of the most coveted accessories among all her staff; American fashion designer Zac Posen; Brit model and wanna-be rock star Agyness Deyn; artist David Levinthal; Jeff Koons; Lulu Guinness; author Fran Leibovitz; model and Salman Rushdie’s ex-wife Padma Lakshmi, to name just a few. The revelers were entertained by music group Hercules and Love affair.

Of course Hadid and Lagerfeld were present too. Watch the event video here, hosted by New York Times journalist Melena Ryzik.
The travelling installation at the east side of NY’s Central Park will be open to public until November 9, 2008, before it leaves for Moscow. Entry is free but since all 23, 000 advance tickets were snapped up within hours of becoming available, a limited number of tickets are still available on-location. Else, you can at least look at the mobile art gallery from outside.
