Tupperware selected as red dot design team of the year 2009

The Tupperware® World Wide Design Team is the “red dot: design team of the year 2009”. For its exemplary and successful design work that spans more than 60 years, the American company’s design team under the management of Susan Perkins, Vice President of Global Design, have received the highest honorary distinction in the design world.

The serving bowls and plates of the Allegra Line received the “red dot: best of the best” award in this year’s “red dot award: product design”.

The design has remained virtually unchanged for over 60 years, the Wonderlier bowls count among the biggest selling products in the Tupperware range.

Issued annually since 1988, the award honours design teams that set standards through continuous design innovation. Among the former recipients are the teams from Bose, BMW, LG Electronics, adidas, Pininfarina, Nokia, Apple, Siemens, and frogdesign. The Tupperware World Wide Design Team will be honoured at the festive awards ceremony for red dot award: product design 2009, to take place on 29 June 2009 in the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany.

    Its funny how an award winning firm like Tupperware has this history of enshrining their designers and on the other hand, firing their engineers left and right. Ask anyone who has worked in their studios, the spirit of innovation is crushed by the mentality that you might be next. Innovation takes place not only in design, but in executing the design, marketing and supporting the customer experience. So little respect is given to the employees, I’m shocked they are smiling in the photos. Again, ask anyone who has worked in their “design studios.” Sad sad state of affairs. Earl Tupper would roll in his grave.
