Swarovski Crystal Palace to shine at Design Miami/ 2008
Swarovski, the Austrian crystal brand has more to it than just eye-blinding bling. With Nadja Swarovski, its creative visionary at helm, the brand has become a major player in the design industry both fashion and interiors, featuring at all the big design events of the year and showing especially-commissioned innovative works by well-known designers such as Zaha Hadid, Tom Dixon, Ron Arad and Tokujin Yoshioka to name just a few. At this year’s Design Miami/, Swarovski Crystal Palace as the main sponsor of the event will showcase a range of new work by British industrial designer Ross Lovegrove.
Lovegrove, has designed a table and chandelier installation entitled Liquid Space. Known for his organic and fluid shapes and the use of intelligent technology, Lovegrove has centered the concept around the interplay of materials and light and the synergies of symmetry, materials and their reflective optical beauty.
Liquid Space has Swarovski crystals suspended in the shape of a vortex and embedded with an LED lighting system that can change colour in an instance via remote control. The vertical piece is automated and its beautiful lights highlights the form of the table below. As part of the limited-edition series, the piece is available upon request and the height of the vertical piece can be custom-made to suit different ceiling heights.
The Bioform Quarter tables by Lovegrove, once again display his amazing ability to turn industrial materials into works of art. This particular product is made out of solid blocks of aluminium by a UK-based car maker. The mirror finish polish represents a super liquid approach to minimalist organic forms, the signature style of Lovegrove.
In addition to the new work that will be shown in the Design Miami pavilion, Swarovski Crystal Palace will also be exhibiting multiple Blossom chandeliers and Cavern benches in the curatorial Design Miami programme which explores the theme of the Natural World.
