Dutch Design Award nominations for Richard Hutten

One of our favourite dutch designers Richard Hutten has been nominated for two prestigious Dutch design awards. Yay!

As one of the most sought after Dutch designers, Hutten has designed for several well-known brands such as Christofle and Moooi among others.

This time Hutten has been nominated for the Dutch Design Awards for the Playing with Tradition carpet as well as the Lai Award for the MGH20 fashion boutique in Rotterdam that belongs to Hutten’s girlfriend and stocks such labels as Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan and Acne to name a few.

In other significant news from Richard Hutten studio, it was recently announced that The Netherlands-based contemporary furniture company Gispen has taken over the Richard Hutten collection and according to a new agreement, the collection will become an integral part of the new product label NgispenN.

“The emphasis is back on design at Gispen”, says Hutten. “We will create a special look for this collection under the leading theme of Playing with Tradition”.

Richard Hutten presented Gispen CEO Peter Veer with a Postzegelschaal (stampbowl) at the signing of the contract.


The collection of NgispeN contains, among others, existing and new Hutten products like Domoor (Dombo mug), Rhino, Bronto, Zzzidt, de Berlage Stool en Chair and the No Sign of Design (NSOD) Chair. The collection further boasts design icons like Gerrit Rietveld’s Mondial chair and Wim Rietveld’s 663 cabinet, W.H. Gispen’s famous lounge chair 412 as well as the 101 and 201 chairs. It also includes Histograms by Fabio Novembre and Slats by Bertjan Pot. New products will be added regularly and are already in the pipeline.

The collection NgispeN will be launched at the Biënnale in Kortrijk in October 2008.
