Prada unveils its Arts Foundation in Milan
Here’s what OMA (Office of Metropolitan Architecture) led by Rem Koolhaas tells us about the upcoming Fondazione Prada in Milan, a cultural project by high-rollers of fashion industry– Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, that was unveiled during Salone 2008. Using his favourite words ‘intervention’ and ‘experiment’ Koolhaas describes the project as “Intervention and transformation of an early 20th century industrial site south of Milan to create a new experimental spaces for the Prada Art Foundation.” Click here to read more about the highly-talked about project on OMA’S website that comes complete with a repertoire by Koolhaas.
Koolhaas and his talented team will add an exhibition building, auditorium and tower to the existing structure to house selection of works from the collection and temporary shows. According to Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, “It will be a unique approach to the idea of the co-existence of the contemporary architecture with the regeneration of an historic area, representing the evolution of Milanese industrial development that continues through the present day. In ongoing efforts to widen the Prada Foundation’s range of activities, the new auditorium will make it possible to host various festivals, theater performances, symposia and lectures on literature, art, cinema, design, architecture, philosophy and global media.”
