Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008 in Milan
The event of the year is here! Salone Internazionale del Mobile, affectionately known only as ‘Salone’, the most glamorous design event of the year, is to furniture design industry what New York Fashion Week is to fashion. Visitors including buyers, designers, journalists, furniture companies and simply design enthusiasts gather in style capital Milan to discuss the emerging trends, network with like-minded-individuals, transact business and attend the va-va voom parties that happen every evening, once the day at the main exhibition hall designed by Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas, has come to an end.
Trust only the Milanese to put up a show that is as stylish as any of the fashion events that happen in the city. While the main exhibition happens at Rho Pero exhibition grounds on the outskirts of the city, there are satellite events happening throughout the city, including Salone Satellite and Zona Tortona, where up coming and talented designers showcase their works. And of course, the fab food, vino, espresso and the perfect spring weather. Not to forget, hanging out with the très cool glitterati at the (in) famous Bar Basso.
Here’re some of the highlights of this year’s event:
Dutch designer Richard Hutten will showcase his new works at Via Morigi
London-based Spanish designer Jaime Háyon continues his tongue-in-cheek creations for Bisazza. This time it’s a plane that serves as a lounge and chill-out zone. Last year the chic Italian mosaic-maker had roped in Studio Job duo Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel to design giant silverware.
Architect of the moment, Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel is also launching a leather chair called SKiN for Ferragamo.
Stay tuned for further updates…
