Seoul, the capital of South Korea has fended off stiff competition from Dubai and Singapore to win the title of World Design Capital 2010. Torino in Italy is the current titleholder (2008-2009). The biennial competition had some of the biggest names from the design industry on its jury panel including Dr. Peter Zec, President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) and President of the reddot design museum, Marc Newson, Patricia Urquiola, Jacques Lange, President of the International Council of Graphic Design Association (Icograda) and Sergio Chiamparino, mayor of Torino. Korean brands such as Samsung and LG have already put the Far Eastern country on the design map and with the new title, it’ll see the country’s graph rising further.
